New England City & Town works to serve New England’s municipal leaders, professional staff, citizen volunteers, and others involved individually and as part of the various city, town, village, borough, plantation, and special district agencies, associations, and other organizations with news, information, ideas, critiques, encouragement, and other resources to assist them in serving well the people and communities entrusted to them.
About New England
New England, comprised of the six states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, occupies the northeast corner of the United States. In this region are 1498 cities and towns, as well as an additional 34 plantations in Maine (total - 1532). In addition, there are six reservations administered by tribal governments; a few dozen incorporated cities, boroughs, and villages that are part of another city or town; and a number of special districts (including fire districts, school districts, and utility districts). 2010 Census State Tallies
The official statewide counts for the 2010 Census for New England are as follows: Connecticut - 3,574,097 (an increase of 4.9%), Maine - 1,328,361 (an increase of 4.2%), Massachusetts - 6,547,629 (an increase of 3.1 %), New Hampshire - 1,316,470 (an increase of 6.5%), Rhode Island - 1,052,567 (an increase of 0.4%), and Vermont - 625,741 (an increase of 2.8 %). The total population of New England is 14,444,865 (an increase of 3.8%). |
